The challenge: No light and unsafe conditions
Railway sidings lighting completed two weeks ahead of schedule, without incidents with RailLight®.
A safer, faster, and more sustainable way to illuminate railway sidings
At Healy Mill Sidings in the UK, more than 4 km of RailLight® now illuminate six active sidings — a project completed safely, two weeks ahead of schedule, and entirely incident-free.
For years, visibility and safety on busy railway sidings have been a challenge. Traditional lighting systems often required excavation, heavy equipment, and long installation times — causing disruption to operations, higher costs, and avoidable downtime.
Working on behalf of Network Rail, our partner The Railway Shop, in cooperation with Central Rail Systems Alliance (CRSA) and Ashby Electrical Limited set out to change that. Their goal: deliver a safer, more efficient, and sustainable lighting solution with minimal disruption to railway operations.

The solution: RailLight® — plug & play lighting mounted directly into the rail
By choosing RailLight®, the team found a solution that addressed all these challenges at once.
Mounted directly into the rail using specially designed clips, RailLight® eliminates the need for excavation or heavy machinery. This plug & play design made installation faster, cleaner, and more efficient — allowing the project to be completed in just ten weeks instead of twelve.
In total, more than 1,000 RailLight® units were installed across 4 km of track, providing uniform, glare-free illumination along all walkways and operational areas. Drivers and staff now benefit from consistent visibility, even during night operations, without shadowing from parked trains.
The result: improved safety and reduced installation time
With RailLight®, our partners achieved:
- Safe, uniform illumination along all walkways and sidings
 - No light pollution
 - Faster installation — completed in ten weeks instead of twelve
 - No ground disturbance or need for heavy machinery
 - Lower operational and maintenance costs
 - Reusable and refurbishable fixtures
 - Long-lasting, energy-efficient performance

The impact: a new benchmark for railway lighting
The Healy Mill Sidings project marks the first large-scale application of rail-mounted lighting in the UK — setting a new standard for safety and sustainability in the railway sector.
